July 24–31, 2025 – Negril, Jamaica
In cooperation with the University of Ottawa, the University of Washington, CISN ICBH and the Psychedelia-Foundation
The Psychedelia Foundation is part of a multi-institutional initiative offering a seven-day retreat in Jamaica, developed specifically for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). The program is grounded in scientific inquiry, cultural sensitivity, and interdisciplinary care in a legal and medically supported setting.
A Multi-Institutional Effort
This retreat is the result of collaboration between:
- University of Ottawa
- University of Washington
- CISN ICBH (International Center for the Study of Neuroaffective Interventions for Culture, Belonging Healing)

The program is guided by a multidisciplinary team including physicians, clinical psychologists, and facilitators with experience in Afro-Caribbean plant medicine practices. It reflects a commitment to culturally informed care, psychological safety, and scientific integrity.
Scientific Framework
Participants contribute to a voluntary clinical study designed to explore themes such as racial identity, trauma, and psychological well-being. Data is collected through structured surveys at multiple timepoints before, during, and after the retreat. The study aims to deepen understanding of how psychedelic-assisted programs can support BIPOC individuals in culturally grounded contexts.
Program Format and Safety
The retreat includes:
- Two facilitated sessions with psychedelic substances in a legal framework
- Individual preparation and integration sessions
- Daily group workshops and reflection spaces
- 24/7 on-site medical coverage and emergency protocols
- Continued integration support after the retreat
Participation is limited to ten individuals to ensure focused, individualized care and close clinical supervision.

The retreat is facilitated by an experienced team including:
- Prof. Monnica Williams (University of Ottawa)
- Prof. Darron Smith (University of Memphis)
